Panaji: The Directorate of Technical Education released the online prospectus on Wednesday to allow direct admission to second-year vocational courses for 2016-17. Direct admissions give holders of pharmacy and engineering degrees a second chance to be admitted to the respective streams. Nearly 270 places in the second year of engineering and pharmacy are available.
Admissions will be based on the marks obtained on the candidates’ final diploma examination.
Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic and Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mining Engineering and Information Technology have 204 seats up for grabs. In addition, aspirants can also try their luck at the 42 seats of the management quota.
Holders of a BSc degree will be able to apply for the seats. In the fields of electrical and electronic engineering, electronic and telecommunications engineering, computer engineering and information technology, if seats are not filled by holders of eligible degrees, holders of an eligible BSc degree will be considered for vacant positions.
In the pharmacy sector, 24 places are offered to direct admission students in the second year, including three places in management quota.
Direct admission seats that remained vacant last year will also be filled during the admission process.
To be eligible for engineering positions, candidates must have obtained the engineering degree in the relevant branch with a minimum of 45% (40% in the case of SC / ST / OBC) or hold a baccalaureate ès sciences with a minimum of 45% (40% in the case of SC / ST / OBC). In the case of the pharmacy degree, similar final year degree grades are expected from applicants to be eligible.
The admission form must be downloaded by the students on the website of the technical education department.
